Abstract
1348511 Steam turbines B B C BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 13 Oct 1971 [15 Oct 1970] 47694/71 Heading FIT A connection between a steam turbine exhaust duct 7 and a condenser inlet duct 9 comprises, Fig.3, a resilient sealing bellows 15 and bridge pieces 11 secured to the ducts, the bridge pieces being resistant to bending and tension in the direction of condenser vacuum pull and being capable of limited bending in a transverse direction. The ends of bridge pieces 11 pass through recesses 6 in stiffening frames 12 and are welded to ducts 7, 9 at 16a, 16b. They may also be welded to recesses 6. To reduce bending stresses in bridge pieces 11 in the direction of arrow C tubular corner braces 17 may be provided within ducts 7, 9 to oppose twisting under vacuum pull. Bellows 15 is made of rubber or woven fabric and is screwed to box-sections 13, 14 on the ends of ducts 7, 9. In the plant shown in Fig. 1 having three low pressure turbine cylinders 2 resilient connections as described are provided between the exhaust ducts 7, 8 of end cylinders 2b and the respective inlet ducts 9, 10 to condenser 3, whereas the corresponding ducts 4, 5 of middle cylinder 2a are rigidly connected. The plant foundation is indicated at 1.
