Abstract

1348338 Electro-photography XEROX CORP 27 April 1971 [27 April 1970] 11606/71 Heading G2H In a photo-electrophoretic imaging process, the image or border area on an injecting plate electrode is transferred to a separation roller electrode in an electric field between the injecting electrode and the separation electrode after application of a repulsive charge to the separation electrode in an area corresponding to one of said areas or after reversal of the electrostatic charge on one of said areas. In Fig. 4, after formation of a positive image and border areas of negatively charged particles on an injecting electrode 75 and a negative image of positively charged particles on a blocking electrode 71, border area particles are transferred to a separation electrode 37 which is charged in an area corresponding to the image area by a negative corona device 28 and image area particles are transferred to a web 82 passing between electrode 75 and a transfer electrode 72. A further corona device may be situated above electrode 75 between electrodes 37 and 72. In Fig. 5, two blocking electrodes 86 and 87, a positive corona device 21 which directly recharges the image area, and a combined separation/transfer electrode 23 are employed. The corona device has an arcuate shield 29 which is rotated to allow charging for a limited period through a variable width opening, Figs. 2 and 3, (not shown).
