Abstract
1346083 Loud-speaker enclosures NECKERMANN VERSAND KGaA 7 May 1971 [8 May 1970] 13833/71 Headings H4J and H4X A loud-speaker cabinet has a front wall 2 with a sound aperture 4, a partition 6 spaced from the front wall 2 and having an aperture closed by a loud-speaker unit 1, and foam material disposed within the cabinet to define at least one damping wall 14 and at least one damping chamber within the cabinet. The partition 6 has two end walls acoustically sealed to the cabinet. Other end walls of the partition 6 are spaced from the cabinet to define parts 11 through which sound from the rear of the loud-speaker diaphragm passes into a gap 7 to mix with sound from the front of the loud-speaker diaphragm. At least two opposite cabinet walls are braced. As described, the bracing is performed by a T-shaped member 12 whose stem is secured between the cabinet rear wall 3 and the loudspeaker unit 1, which is thereby pressed against the partition 6. The cross arm of member 12 braces two vertical side walls of the cabinet. Two vertical foamed sheets 14 are glued to this cross-arm. The stem of the T supports two horizontal foamed sheets 14. Alternatively these two foamed sheets 14 are vertical (Fig. 4, not shown). All the sheets 14 terminate short of the cabinet walls. The partition 6 is spaced from the front wall 2 by spacers 5. The size of the gap 7 is adjustable by screws 9, the end regions of the partition 6 being deformable. The sound aperture 4 in the front wall 2 is preferably frustum shaped and diverges towards the partition 6. Relatively small cabinets (volume 3À6 to 15 litres) have a front wall of internal length equal to, at most, 3 diaphragm diameters and of internal width equal to, at most, two diaphragm diameters. The cabinets are narrow, and deep from front to rear. Intermediate cabinets (volume 15 to 26 litres) have the largest dimensions from front to rear and a ratio 3 : 4 is suitable for the width to length ratio of the front wall. Larger cabinets (26 to 50 litres) are smaller from front to rear than from side to side.
