Abstract

1345609 Vacuum closures G BEGHINI 19 April 1971 [9 Feb 1970] 20485/71 Heading B8T A vacuum packing, particularly for food, comprises a container 1 fitted with a cover 2 provided with an opening 7 in which a plug 8, articulated to the cover, sits. A vacuum is formed in the container by means of the nozzle 11, connected to a pump, sucking air out past the plug 8. To release the vacuum and remove the cover 2, the plug 8 is pulled upwardly by the ring 10. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), relating to static containers, the evacuation procedure is similar, but to release the vacuum a valve (14) is operated and the cover is lifted off. The opening 7 is permanently connected to an air suction tube (13), and the container contains a pressure-activated microcontact (15) which operates the suction pump to maintain the vacuum.
