134,478. Harris, C. S. April 7, 1919. Ladders.-The two parts a, d of a sliding or telescopic ladder can be held extended by a stay or platform l to form a step ladder as shown in Fig. 2. A cross bar on the stay or platform engages a hook m to limit the extent of spreading. When in use as a long ladder, the platform is folded along the part d and held by a hook k on a slide j as shown in Fig. 1. The joint between the two parts a, d is formed by pivoted hooks n caused to engage the cross bar o on the arms p by the slide j. The sides of the ladder are formed of layers or plies of wood t with distance-pieces v. The rungs r are secured to the sides by dovetail joints s. When the telescopic ladder is extended by cords the hook b, Figs. 1 and 5. slips from one rung to the other as described in Specification 11457/07. When the part, d is to be lowered it is first raised a bit and then the guide f pivoted to the hook b at g displaces the hook band enables it to pass the rungs.
