Abstract
1344521 Spray carburettors; controlling float chamber pressure UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS Co 24 May 1971 [25 May 1970] 16610/71 Heading F1B The pressure in a carburettor float chamber is regulated in dependence upon any one or more of (1) carbon monoxide content of exhaust gas (2) oxygen content of exhaust gas or ambient air (3) ambient air temperature (4) relative humidity of the atmosphere. The float chamber pressure may depend upon one or more of these in combination with barometric pressure. The magnitude of each variable determines a signal supplied to a computing relay which gives an output signal to regulate the float chamber pressure. The system may be electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic or a combination of these. Fig. 3 shows a pneumatic system in which air is supplied from tank 23 to units 29, 30, 31 and 32, the outputs from which depend upon oxygen content, temperature, pressure and humidity respectively. The outputs are fed by pneumatic lines 37, 38, 39 and 40 to a computing relay 26, which transmits an output signal to a valve 18 to control air flow from tank 23 via line 21 to float chamber 16. Instead of supplying air under pressure to chamber 16, connection may be made by a vacuum line 19 to the engine inlet manifold 20. The outputs of units 29- 32 may be analogue or digital.
