Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the discharging amount of smoke by a method wherein an atmospheric pressure compensating device is interposed in a diaphragm operating chamber for an EGR valve to reduce the amount of DGR upon running at a high altitude. CONSTITUTION:An EGR control valve 1 is controlled by the atmospheirc pressure compensating device 60. The inner part of a metallic bellows 21 for the compensating device 60 is held at vacuum and thereby controlling a vacuum source 29 by the variation of the atmospheric pressure. When the engine is brought into a low pressure atmosphere upon running on the high altitude, the metallic bellows 21 is extended and a shaft 19 is pushed up. According to this action, the valve port effective area of a nozzle valve 15 becomes small and the set vacuum value of an upper chamber 61a becomes small, accordingly, the vacuum outputted from a pipe 20 is reduced. Therefore, the atmospheric pressure compensation is effected on the shaft 6 of an EGR pipe by the metallic bellows 21, thereby reducing the amount of the EGR.
