Abstract
1369832 Spray carburetters ZENITH CARBURETTER CO Ltd 16 March 1973 [16 Dec 1971] 58494/71 Heading F1B A carburetter comprises an induction passage 11, a throttle valve 18, a fuel supply chamber 17 and a metering jet 15 through which fuel passes into the induction passage, passage means 19 for connecting a space above the fuel in the fuel supply chamber to the atmosphere through a restricted vent 33 and to a Source of suction through a flow restricting device 38, 39 and means responsive to atmospheric pressure to control the relative flow capacities of said restricted vent and said flow restricting device, wherein a valve 28 associated with the throttle valve 18 is arranged to open an unrestricted vent 32 connecting said space to the atmosphere when the throttle valve is moved to the closed position. The passage 19 opens into the middle compartment 26 of a housing 22, divided by partitions 23 and 24. A valve member 28 is movable to seat against either partition and thus to connect the passage 19 either to the unrestricted vent 32 or to the chamber 27 having the restricted vent 33 and from which a passage leads to the device 34. This device consists of a body in which is formed a chamber 37 connected by a pipe to the mixing chamber 35 of the carburetter. Communication between the mixing chamber 35 and the space above the fuel in the chamber 17 is controlled by a valve member 39 and a seat 38. The position of the valve member 39 is dependent upon ambient atmospheric pressure, since the member 39 is connected by a stem to an aneroid capsule 44, which is situated in a chamber 43 vented to atmosphere and separated from the remainder of the interior of the body by a diaphragm 42. The valve 28 is mechanically connected to the throttle valve linkage 46 so that when the throttle valve is in the closed position the valve 28 seats on the partition 24 and when the throttle is opened the valve seats on the partition 23. The device may also be applied to a fixed choke carburetter, in which case the pipe leading from the chamber 37 to the carburetter is connected at the carburetter to the throat of the venturi.
