Abstract

1344430 Measuring or detecting gas or dust DRAGERWERK AG 18 Sept 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 43184/72 Headings G1B and G1X A predetermined volume of gas which may contain dust is automatically drawn through a measuring or detecting means 4 by the expansion of a bellows 2 by a spring 7. At the completion of the expansion stroke a clutch is engaged, a continuously operating motor 17 then driving a threaded spindle 9, or a pressure member (not shown) upwardly so as to deflate the bellows 2, gas being driven through a one-way valve 6. On completion of this deflation the clutch disengages thereby initiating a further stroke. The clutch may, as shown, comprise an axially fixed half-nuts device 10 rotated by a pinion 13 and transversely displaced for clutch engagement and disengagement by spring biased levers which are moved, at the extreme positions of the spindle 9, by abutment rings on the spindle 9. In a further embodiment, the clutch comprises two threaded spindles continuously rotated by the motor 17 which engage, on termination of the expansion stroke, a threaded transverse member so as to move a pressure member upwardly therby deflating the bellows. In a modification, the rotating spindles engage a half nuts device as in the first embodiment.
