Abstract

1332444 Grinding LIDKOPINGS MEKANISKA VERKSTADS AB 17 Feb 1972 [10 March 1971] 7423/72 Heading B3D A centreless grinding machine for a cylindrical workpiece 3 having a radial flange 5 with two radial flange surfaces 6, 7 comprises two measuring fingers 27, 28 which contact the respective surfaces and are connected to a device for registering the thickness of the flange and controlling a device for effecting axial movement of the grinding wheel so that the flange is ground to a desired thickness. The workpiece rests on a cradle 1 and is rotated by a driving roller 8 which is slightly inclined so that the workpiece is urged axially until the flange surface 6 abuts a stop 2. The grinding wheel has operative surfaces 10, 11 for grinding the cylindrical surface 4 and surface 7 of the flange and is mounted on a hollow shaft 13 in screw threaded engagement with a spindle 16 rotatable by gearing 18, 19, 20 driven by a motor 21 to effect axial movement of the wheel for grinding the flange to a desired thickness. The motor is controlled by a unit 23 connected by an indicator 41 to a pair of devices 29, 30, each of which has a coil 37, 38. A rod 35, 36 is movable in each coil and is mounted on a respective finger 27, 28. The fingers are mounted on pivots 31, 32 and are urged by springs 33, 34 to engage the flange surfaces 6, 7.
