Abstract

1344184 Track circuit BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 22 June 1972 [11 May 1971] 14207/71 Heading B7N In a track circuit for a continuous rail system in which the circuit ends are defined by short circuit elements 13 and in which the circuit is centre fed from a low frequency (400-1000 Hz) source 10, the ends of the circuit are more clearly defined using further high frequency (60 KHz) track circuit signals. Signals from the low frequency source are picked-up in the absence of a train, by pick-up coils 14 at the ends of the circuit and applied to a unit 15. In each unit the signal is applied via a filter 16 and amplifier to a modulator 17 where it modulates a high frequency carrier from source 18. The modulated signal is applied to the track at a distance from the shorting element 13 at which satisfactory shunting of the L.F. signal by a train can be guaranteed. This H.F. signal is picked-up by pick-up 19 and applied via a filter 20 and amplifier 21 to a demodulator 22 which supplies the demodulated low frequency signal via a filter, amplifier and rectifier to the relay circuit 24. As a further safe-guard the power supply to the amplifier for the received high frequency signal can be obtained via rectifier 25 from the received L.F. signal.
