Abstract
1326885 Track circuit GEC-GENERAL SIGNAL Ltd 22 Feb 1972 [23 Feb 1971] 5239/71 Heading B7N A track circuit for continuous rail track comprises a transmitter 14 supplying an output at predetermined frequency to the track rails 10, 12, and a receiver 22 tuned to the predetermined frequency coupled to the rails at an end of the circuit to respond to both the inter rail voltage and the current in at least one of the rails. The coupling can be by a single coil 20 inductively coupled to the rail 10 and to a lead 18 which connects impedence 16 across the rails. Until a shorting axle 26 reaches the receive position the fall off in the inter-rail voltage component of the signal applied to the receiver due to the approach of the shorting axle is compensated by the increase in the rai current component of the signal. The circuit may be end or centre fed by the transmitter 14, adjacent circuits being fed at different frequencies. Both impedance leads and both rails may be coupled to the receiver, Fig. 2 (not shown), or the coupling to the rail 10 and lead 18 can be by separate coils which are connected in series.
