Abstract
1343573 Trimarans M G J PAIT-MARCH. AND 2 May 1972 [14 May 1971 10 March 1972] 20529/72 Heading B7A A trimaran has two liquid holding hollow floats connected by conduits enabling the liquid to be transferred from one float to the other. In a preferred embodiment each float 2, 3 is connected to the hull by rigid arms 4, 5, the upper arms 4 pivoted between forks 7, while the lower arms 5 are connected by releasable locking means to the hull above the water line. Each liquid conduit has a corresponding gas conduit connecting the upper parts of the two floats and a pump may be connected to compress the gas in one or other of the floats. Each float may comprise several sealed compartments such as for water and petrol, each joined to the corresponding compartment of the other float in the above manner. Shock absorbers 12 are provided to limit rotation of arms 4, 5. In a modification, Fig. 6, pivotable arms 13 are joined to the hull by extendable tie rods 15 the extendable part of which may comprise two loops 18, Fig. 8, joined by rubber bands 19 and having co-pperafing spindles 22, 23 for guiding. Each arm 13 is held by a flexible and non- extendible tie 26 fixed to an auxiliary mast 27. The extendible part of the rods 15 may alternatively comprise a pneumatic device.
