Abstract
1342295 Making commutator segments; extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 5 May 1971 [6 May 1970] 13168/71 Headings B3A and B3P [Also in Divisions C7 and H2] A method of making a commutator segment comprises hydrostatically extruding a billet having an aluminium or aluminium alloy core surrounded by a copper or copper alloy casing, splitting the billet lengthwise and cutting the split portions to the required length for the segment. The billet is either extruded tapering in thickness towards its centre line, Fig. 3 (not shown) or it is of constant thickness, Fig. 4 (not shown), in which case it is subsequently rolled to a thinner section at its centre. The taper is selected to correspond with the required taper of the segments. In the finished segment, the copper is much thinner at the sides 5 than on the contact surface 6.
