Abstract

1341892 Cryogenic containers PRELOAD ENG CO 19 April 1971 [20 May 1970] 25308/71 Heading F4P A cryogenic storage structure comprises a side wall and roof system surrounded by a continuous massive wall 46 of concrete and an outer wall 50 of concrete spaced from wall 46 by crushable insulation 48 such as to permit wall 50 to contract if it comes into contact with cryogenic liquid. The side wall system comprises an inner pre-stressed concrete wall 30, a steel liner, insulation 38 and wall 40. If the inner and outer walls 30, 40 fail, wall 46 transfers its heat to the escaping liquid to vaporize it. The gas then escapes to the top of wall 46. Wall 50 is prestressed by tendons 52.
