Abstract

1,112,852. Storing liquefied gases. WHESSOE Ltd. 28 Feb., 1967 [28 Feb., 1966], No. 8660/ 66. Heading F4P. Liquefied gas, e.g. hydrogen or helium, is stored in a tank comprising an inner vessel 1 surrounded by a second vessel 2, the space between being filled by powdered insulant purged with a first gas, e.g. hydrogen or helium, which will not condense on the surface of vessel 1. Vessel 2 is surrounded by an outer vessel 3, the space between vessels 2 and 3 being filled with powdered insulant purged by a second gas, e.g. nitrogen, which has a lower conductivity of heat than the first gas, the spacing between vessels 1, 2 and 3 being such that the second gas will not condense on the outside of vessel 2. The vessels 1, 2 and 3 may be of stainless steel, the weight and contents of vessel 1 being carried by a grid of perforated vertical webs 7, and of vessel 2 by similar webs 11.
