1339292 Labelling JAGENBERG-WERKE AG 23 Aug 1971 [26 Sept 1970] 39460/71 Heading B8F An apparatus for pressing down the ends of labels applied to continuously moving upright bottles or the like comprises stationary devices initiating the pressing down and an oscillating pressing device moving with each object to press down each end in turn. In the embodiment shown bottles 1 are fed to a rotating table 5 and labels 9, gummed by roll 8, are attached to them by cylinder 10. The bottles are rotated through 90 degrees and then held stationary relative to the table for the remaining operations, during the course of which a member 11 holds the centre of the label against displacement. Stationary brushes 12, 27 initiate the pressing down of the free ends. A freely rotatable presser roller 14 of resilient material oscillates in a circular path 13 about a point on the table to the rear of each bottle, and moves, without touching the brushes, firstly in a clockwise direction pressing down the left hand end of the label, then reversing its direction after passing the brush 27 to press down the right hand end; remaining pressed against the overlapping ends until the bottle is discharged from the table. The roller 14 is oscillated by its engaging, via gears, a toothed sector fast with a follower lever engaging a stationary cam track.
