Abstract

1,129,022. Labelling tubes; capping collapsible tubes. ANDERSEN & BRUUN (ENGLAND) Ltd. 20 Sept., 1967 [10 Aug., 1966], No. 35850/66. Headings B8F and B8T. Tubes to be labelled are first heated so that the heat can subsequently activate heat sensitive adhesive on a label which is wound about the tube by rotating it. In the construction illustrated two spaced tubes delivered down a shoot 5 are pushed axially by a member 6 on to mandrels on an intermittently rotating turntable 2. An electrically heated pad 9 is applied to the end of each tube and, at the next station, the tube is rotated as a burner 8 heats the main body. A label 13 cut from a web travelling parallel to the axis of the drum is then wrapped around the tube by rotating it. A roller 14 assists this action, and revolving brushes at the next station may smooth the label while the adhesive is still soft. A screw cap delivered from a vibrating hopper 16 by a shoot 17 is then applied to the tube which is again rotated while the cap is held stationary. The labelled tubes are discharged down a shoot 19. The label may be of metal foil or of paper. The mandrels holding the tubes may be replaced by grippers.
