Abstract
1339217 Dry shavers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Sept 1972 [25 Sept 1971] 43954/72 Heading B4B A shaving head for a dry shaver comprises a shear plate 3 and a rotary cutter 2 including a number of cutter blades 9, mounted carrier 4, the centre of gravity 15 of each blade being so arranged that when the blade deviates, in use. from initial contact with the shear plate, the centrifugal and centripetal forces acting on the blade provides a couple which tends to restore engagement with the shear plate. The blades are mounted in slots 8 formed in the carrier and urged by springs 12 into engagement with the shear plate. Each blade is formed with a curved edge 13 which operatively engages the radial outer end of the respective slot 8 under centrifugal force. The centre of curvature of the edge 13, centre of gravity 15 and point of contact of the edge 13 with the opening 8 lie in a common straight line when the razor is not in use. In the modification shown in Figs. 8 and 9 each blade is pivotally connected to the transverse portion 38a of a U-shaped spring 38, the ends 39a of the spring being pivotally connected to the carrier 4. Because of the position of the ends 39a in relation to the centre of gravity 15, the cutting blades are urged into contact with the shear plate by centrifugal force; magnetic means may be used instead of centrifugal force or springs.
