Abstract

1339011 Mobile jib cranes SHAW TREW & SMITH Ltd 17 Dec 1970 [14 Jan 1970] 1795/70 Heading B8B A mobile crane has a luffing jib 10 raised and lowered by a ram 15. The jib 10 is pivoted at 11, the pivot being free to slide horizontally in a slot 4. A strut 12 is pivoted at 14 on support structure 1 and at 13 on the jib 10. When the jib 10 is lowered the pivot 11 slides along the slot 4, the result being that the outreach of load support point 6 is reduced as indicated at 6a to maintain stability of the crane. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the ram 15 is replaced by a horizontal ram (18) fixedly mounted on the chassis 1 and pivoted to the base of the jib 10 to move it horizontally as the jib is luffed.
