Lids and covers; joints between box bottoms and bodies; lined and covered boxes.-The body part a., Fig. 2, of a carton or like receptacle and the rim portion of a slip-in or slip-on lid are made by dividing into two parts a single tube of paper &c. formed with grooves or depressions a<1>, a<2>, a<3>. The grooves a<1>, a<2> are arranged to produce internal shoulders upon which rest the ends b, Figs. 4 and 5, of the receptacle. The parts b are secured in place by turning in the ends of the material. The lid, Fig. 4, may be provided with a strengthened rim adapted to engage a strengthened neck a<3>, Fig. 5, on the body of the receptacle; also, the bottom b may have a downturned edge b<1> engaged by an inserted paper ring or by the turned-up edge of the body a. The receptacle may have a covering or lining of glazed paper.
