Abstract

1338806 Rocket firing device; rocket apparatus; launching rockets COMET-APPARATEBAU GmbH 1 Oct 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 45811/71 Headings F3X F3A and F3C A launching device for rockets has a launching barrel 2, Fig. 1, a handle 3 attached at right angles to the barrel 2, a butt 4, and an E- shaped handle 5 which connects the butt 4 to the barrel 2. A rocket 9, Fig. 3, has a rear end 9a containing a charge 9b, has a bore 9c, and has a plate 10. The latter is attached to the end 9a by a seam 9d, is provided with jets lOa for the escape of burnt gases from the charge 9b, has a percussion cap 11 mounted therein, and has a 'cone lOb which, when the rocket is inserted into the barrel, engages a truncated cone 12a, Fig. 4, of a breech-plate 12, the latter being mounted in the end 2a of the barrel 2. The breech-plate 12 has a bore 126 which guides a firing pin 13, having a point 13b and a shoulder 13c. A member 14 is slidably mounted on the firing pin and has a cocking lever 17 fixed thereto, the cocking lever passing through a slot 2b formed in the barrel 2. The firing pin has a spring 15 mounted thereon which is located between the sliding member 14 and a spring washer 16 fixed to the firing pin, has an opening 13a which receives a trigger pin 18 having a recess 18a, Fig. 6 (not shown), engageable by a locking pin 20, and is urged by a spring 21, a member 22 being positioned between the firing pin 13 and the spring 21. In use the rocket is inserted into the barrel, the cocking lever 17, Fig. 4, is moved in the direction of the butt 4 and the firing pin 13 is retained in the cocked position by the trigger pin 18 which is urged into the opening 13a of the firing pin by a spring 19. Locking is effected by the pin 20. In order to launch the rocket the pin 20 is actuated, the trigger pin 18 is urged manually against the spring 19 and the firing pin 13 is urged towards the rocket by the spring 21. The point 13b strikes the percussion cap 11, Fig. 3, and the shoulder 13c, Fig. 4, of the firing pin then strikes the plate 10 and pushes the rocket along the barrel 2 prior to the charge 9b causing the rocket to be propelled out of the barrel. The spring 15 moves the firing pin rearwards so as to prevent it from protruding when the device in uncocked.
