Abstract

1338310 Supporting conveyer belts PNEUMATIQUES CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBERCOLOMBES and ATELIERS MECANIQUES DU DOUAISIS 19 April 1971 [16 Feb 1970] 21918/71 Heading B8A A conveyer belt 13 (Figs. 4 and 5) is supported by air pressure in a chamber 19. The air is supplied via conduits 18a, 18b and apertures 17a, 17b. An increase in load increases the area of flow between the belt and belt-support surface of the chamber 19 adjacent the apertures 17a, 17b. This results in the belt having up- and-down and lateral stability. The belt may be of hollow, tubular cross-section (Fig. 6, not shown). There may be a single longitudinally extending member 6 (Fig. 1) projecting into a chamber 5 connected by orifices 4a, 4b with pressure chambers 3a, 3b. In operation, air from chambers 3a, 3b, passes through orifices 4a, 4b into the main belt supporting chambers and then to atmosphere via apertures 8a, 8b.
