Abstract
1,153,371. Air-cushion vehicles. BERTIN & CIE. 3 June, 1966 [3 June, 1965], No. 24778/66. Heading B7K. An air-cushion vehicle operates over an inverted T-section track 1 and is supported therefrom by cushions enclosed by flexible skirts 28 disposed on opposite sides of the centre track rail 7, further cushions 9, 10 cooperating with the opposed faces of this rail. Two engines 13, 14 respectively drive centrifugal compressors 11, 12 through shafts 17, 18 and 16, 15 the pairs of shafts being interconnected by a shaft 19 through gear-boxes 21 and free-wheel devices 22, 23. Ducting leads from the compressors to outlets such as P 1 and P 2 to supply pressure air to the supporting and guiding air cushions, a substantial extent of said ducting extending from the compressors in planes substantially parallel to the longitudinal medial plane of the vehicle and each compressor having a fluid intake orifice in a plane also substantially parallel to said medial plane. The shaft 19 and free-wheel devices 22, 23 ensure that both compressors are driven continuously by at least one of the engines.
