Abstract

1,097,033. Monorail vehicles. BECORIT (RESEARCH) Ltd. Sept. 18, 1964 [June 19, 1963], No. 24335/63. Heading B7L. A vehicle comprises two bogies 11, 12 connected by linkage 16-20, the bogie 12 having a motor 24 to drive rollers 23 which can be brought into engagement with opposite sides of the web of an I-section rail 10 to either act as the sole propelling means or to aid rollers 13, 21, running on the upper face of the lower rail flange, which may be driven by another motor. The motor 24 may be a compressed-air motor supplied from cylinders 45 carried by bogies 11, 12. The rollers 23 are carried by arms 39 pivoted together 40 and moved apart by control cylinder 41 to press rollers 23 against the rail web when required; each roller 23 is driven through a separate transmission from motor output shaft 25, the transmissions comprising chains 29, 34 and bevel gears 31, 36, 32, 37. A valve controlling the flow of compressed air to the motor 24 is operated by a lever 47. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the weight of the cylinders is used with a control cylinder to press the rollers against the web, the cylinder being supported by the lower ends of a pair of scissor-connected arms, the upper ends of which support the rollers 23.
