Abstract

1420023 Conveying sheet material by gas cushion SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 12 Feb 1973 [10 Feb 1972] 6698/73 Headings B8A and B8R [Also in Division C1] Sheet or strip material is carried from above by a gaseous cushion generator which has intake orifices connected to a supply of gas at higher than ambient pressure and discharge orifices such that at least at a peripheral zone stabilizing zones in the vicinity of the intake orifices alternate with carrying zones in the vicinity of the discharge orifices. In the Figure, material 3 is supported by a cushion generator comprising at least one panel 1 having intake orifices 5 connected to a supply of gas under pressure through chambers 9 and discharge orifices 4 connected to a suction source through chambers 8. Each orifice is supplied with a plug 15 defining a passage for the gas.
