Abstract

1,176,047. Delivering sheets; endless conveyers. I. UNGERER. 30 Nov., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 54493/67. Headings B8A and B8R. Metal sheets 19 (e.g. cut from web 191 by flying shears 21, Fig. 1, not shown), are conveyed to one of the stacking stations 1, 2, 3 (Fig. 1, not shown) by partially perforated endless belts 18. Suction heads 7-11 apply holding suction through the belt, each head having an upper suction chamber 13 and lower chambers 14-16 connectable to the upper chamber by valves 31 and also connectable to the atmosphere or a source of compressed air (through valves 33, Fig. 6, not shown). In response to a detector measuring deviations from the thickness tolerance of the sheets as they are cut, the sheets are thrown off the conveyer at a selected stacking station by cutting off the vacuum and applying atmospheric pressure or compressed air to selected ones of the lower chambers, e.g. 14, 15. The width of the belt may be spanned by two lower chambers, e.g. 15, 15<SP>1</SP> separated by chamber 29 continuously connected to upper chamber 13 and further continuous suction chambers 28 may be provided. Chambers 28, 29 lie above non- perforated areas of the belt and support the latter.
