Abstract

1336078 Electric couplings A SCHIFFMAN 23 Aug 1971 [17 Dec 1970] 39358/71 Heading H2E A branch terminal for connecting main conductors 1-4 to branch conductors 7 comprises a series of metal clamps which are arranged in physically interconnected pairs. In the arrangement of Fig. 1, each pair of clamps such as 5, 6 and 10, 11 are interconnected and operated by a single clamping screw 13 which may be either of insulating material or of metal, means being provided in the latter ease to insulate the screw from the clamps. An insulating partition 12 and an H shaped cross-section insulating partition 19 are used to insulate each clamp from its neighbour, and the clamps have cutting edges 8, 9 for piercing the main conductors' insulation. In the arrangement of Fig. 3, each clamp is operated by an individual clamping screw and one half 33, 36 of each of a pair of clamps is fixed to an insulating partition piece 38 which may also be firmly attached to the outer casing, 39, 40. Both arrangements are such that the axes of all the clamping screws lie in the same plane, this plane being orthogonal to the main cable axis.
