Abstract

1335323 Releasable fastenings STABILUS INDUSTRIE-UND HANDELS GmbH 4 April 1972 [6 April 1971] 15393/72 Heading E2A A lockable lifting device for adjusting the height of chairs and the like comprises a cylindrical container 12 containing a piston rod 1 with a piston 8 and a partition 10 through a passage in which is slidable a push rod 13 displaceable to allow liquid to flow from one side of the partition to the other under the pressure of compressed gas as the position of the rod 1 is adjusted and liquid flows through a bore 15 in the piston 8. The rod 1 has a chamber 6 for compressed gas closed by a floating piston 7. On loading the device, when locked, liquid acting on the piston 7 further compresses the gas and provides a small additional height adjustment and provides a comfortable suspension. Alternatively the rod 1 extends into a container 24 containing compressed gas. The partition may be connected to an end lid 14 by a cylindrical portion through which the rod 13 passes. The rod has a reduced portion 34 to allow liquid flow through a bore 31 and flow is cut off when the reduced portion has passed the bore, thus limiting the movement of the rod.
