Abstract

1333088 Polyurethane foam DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 12962/70 Heading C3R [Also in Division B1] Polyurethane foam is prepared by mixing an inert gas with a liquid polyurethane prepolymer composition containing a surfactant, whipping the prepolymer composition to form a stable froth and subsequently mixing into the froth a curing agent for the prepolymer by static mixing means. The inert gas may be air, carbon dioxide or nitrogen and is suitably injected into a stream of the prepolymer containing the surfactant. Polyfunctional amines are the preferred curing agents. The prepolymer may contain a reaction product of a carboxylic acid and an organic isocyanate, which reaction product may be produced in situ in the prepolymer forming reaction mixture. Silicones are the preferred surfactants. The static mixing means suitably comprises an open-ended container having a series of projections on its inner surface (see Divisions B1-B2).
