Abstract

1355227 Polyol mixtures; polyurethane foams SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 8 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 57483/71 Heading C3R Polyurethane foams having a compact surface are prepared by reacting, in the presence of a polyurethane reaction catalyst and under foam-forming reaction conditions, a polyisocyanate with a polyol mixture comprising (a) a polyoxyalkylene polyol of M.W. from 750 to 10,000, (b) an aliphatic diol of M.W. below 500 in an amount of 10 to 25% by weight, based on the weight of (a) and (c) an aliphatic triol having a M.W. below 500 in an amount of 1 to 7% by weight, based on the weight of (a). The polyoxyalkylene polyol preferably has a M.W. of 3000 to 7000 and is a glycerol-initiated polyoxypropylene-oxyethylene polyol. The aliphatic diol (b) is preferably a mixture of diethyl. ene glycol and dipropylene glycol and the aliphatic triol (c) is preferably trimethylolpropane.
