Abstract
1358519 Polyurethane foams BAYER AG 1 June 1972 [3 June 1971] 25589/72 Heading C3R Polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting a linear polyether having a M.W. of 150 to 750, with a polyisocyanate solution of a polyisocyanate containing at least one allophanic acid ester group and at least 3 NCO- groups in a polyisocyanate or polyisocyanate mixture free from allophanic acid ester groups, in the presence of at least 0À5 p.b.w., based on 100 p.b.w. of the polyether, of water as blowing agent. The polyethers are most suitably initiated with aromatic compounds containing 2 active hydrogen atoms, and preferably contain at least 5% of primary OH groups. The allophanate polyisocyanates may be prepared by reacting N-substituted carbamic acid esters, which may contain NCO groups with isocyanates. Most preferably the polyisocyanate solutions are prepared in a single operation by reacting compounds containing OH groups with excess polyisocyanate, through the N-substituted carbamic acid ester stage into the allophanate polyisocyanate dissolved in excess monomeric polyisocyanate. Conventional blowing agents, surfactants and catalysts may be included in the foam-forming reaction mixture.
