Abstract
1,267,011. Polyurethane foams. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 2 June, 1970 [7 June, 1969], No. 26515/70. Headings C3C and C3R. Polyurethane foam is prepared by reacting (a) a polyether which contains at least two reactive hydrogen atoms, has a M.W. of 1500 to 10,000 and in which at least 10% of the hydroxyl groups present are primary hydroxyl groups, (b) a polyisocyanate solution which is a solution of a polyisooyanate which contains at least one isocyanuric acid ring dissolved in a monomeric polyisocyanate which is free from isocyanurate groups, and (c) a blowing agent. The polyethers (a) are suitably produced by reacting an alkylene oxide with an initiator molecule followed by " tipping " of the polyether with ethylene oxide if the alkylene oxide is not itself ethylene oxide. The polyisocyanates which contain isocyanuric acid rings are preferably polymeric toluylene diisocyanate, if desired in admixture with 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and the preferred monomeric polyisocyanates are the said diisocyanates in monomeric form. Water is the preferred blowing agent. Conventional catalysts and foam stabilizers may be added to the reaction mixture as may active hydrogen containing compounds other than the polyethers specified above.
