Abstract

1329919 Stranding machines SCHWERMASGHINENBAU - KOMBINAT ERNST THALMANN MAGDEBURG VEB 28 Oct 1971 50218/71 Heading D1T A stranding machine comprises at least one rotor unit each having a shaft 1 through which the strands or wires are guided. Coaxially rotatably mounted on the shaft 1 are pairs of reels 2, 3, wire being drawn off one reel of each pair over a device 4 by which it is guided to the shaft. A driven shaft 5 carries coupling devices 6 in the form of induction clutches which drive reels 2, 3 independently by means of belt or chain drives 20. Rotation of the reels 2, 3 is also controlled by brakes 23, 24. Thus, whilst wire is withdrawn from one reel of each pair under a tension controlled by its corresponding clutch and brake, the other reel may be driven to wind on wire. On exhaustion of one supply reel, the drive shaft is stopped by a brake 22, the end of the wire on the refilled reel is welded to the tail withdrawn from the empty reel and stranding is recommenced, whilst fresh wire is wound on the empty reel. Synchronism between the shafts 1 of adjacent rotor units is maintained by an auxiliary shaft 9 and belts 25.
