Abstract

1,266,383. Cable-making machines. N. V. BEKAERTSA. 2 June, 1969, No. 27827/69. Heading D1T. Cable 6 is manufactured by drawing strands 5 from non-rotating supply drums 8 along the axis of a rotating housing 1, in one direction, leading them to guides 10 carried by the housing so that they are individually twisted, bring- ing them together on the axis by means of guides 12 and delivering them in the reverse direction to a straightening roller 20 relative to which the housing 1 rotates, so that the strands are twisted together. The roller 20 may be rotated in the opposite direction to that of the housing. A driven drum 30 draws the strands through the apparatus and a reciprocating arm 25 traverses the finished cable into a winding reel 24. A core strand 18 may be supplied from an external reel 19 or from one of the internal drums 8. Alternatively, core-less may be produced by winding over a pointed rod 27 (Fig. 3, not shown) mounted on the axis of the housing. The resultant cable, which may be of wire, is stated to have high stretchability and fatigue strength.
