Abstract

1329241 Valves NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 27 Aug 1970 [3 Sept 1969] 43720/69 Heading F2V [Also in Division A5] Limb treatment apparatus comprises a container and means to supply gas under pressure to the container interior, a section of the wall of the container defining an aperture and being deflectable to form a leaking seal 23, Fig. 1, around a body limb, particularly the remnant stump 22 following amputation, inserted through the aperture. The container may be made of non-resilient flexible plastics material 30, Fig. 2. In an alternative form disclosed in the Specification but not falling within the soope of the invention the container is a rigid cylinder 1, Fig. 1. The leaking seal may be of the type disclosed in Specification 1,180,234. The pressurized gas is supplied from a pump 9 via a pressure regulator 11, temperature regulator 12, humidity regulator 13 and filter 14. The regulators may be responsive to sensors 6, 7, 8 detecting the conditions in the container or on or in the limb 22 and may be pre-set or controlled by a programming device 13a. The pressure in the container may be maintained constant or cycled in a predetermined manner.
