Abstract

1329127 Oil burners J A RYDBERG 2 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57255/70 Heading F4T An oil burner, comprising an oil injection nozzle arranged perpendicularly to a transverse wall and provided with an annular series of holes radially spaced from the nozzle axis through which the greater part of the combustion air is supplied, has an annular air supply passage means adjacent to the transverse wall and extending around the nozzle, to which additional combustion air is fed to form a veil of cleansing air along the wall to prevent the formation of soot. The burner, Fig. 2, has an oil injection nozzle 2 placed in a cylindrical cup 8 sunk into a transverse wall 1. Main combustion air is supplied through a series of holes 4 and additional combustion air through a slot 9 formed between the cup 8 and wall 1. The veil of air blows soot off the wall 1. Air ports 11, 12 prevent the deposit of soot in the cup 8. Air may also be blown in tangentially near the top opening of the cup. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the inlet of the cup 8 is provided with a cylindrical or frusto-conical enlargement. The cup 8 may be fruato-conical. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the annular air supply passages discharge radially inwards. The oil injection nozzle may atomize the oil by the use of high pressure oil or low pressure oil mixed with air vapour, or compressed air or by the use of rotary nozzles. The air jets through holes 4 suck hot combustion gases back from the combustion space to the area adjacent the transverse wall.
