Abstract
1329045 Two-part couplings MERLIN GERIN 2 Aug 1971 [10 Aug 1970] 36177/71 Heading H2E An edge connector for a panel or circuit board 10 comprises sockets 18 and further comprises a series of respective screw clamping terminals for receiving leads 33. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 a screw 36 co-operating with a fixed square nut 38 causes a clamping plate 40 to move thereby clamping the lead 33 inserted in a hole in the lug 42 of the plate 40 against the connector body . The plate 40 is in two parts 47, 49 which are electrically insulated from each other, the part 49 being electrically connected to the socket 18. The insertion of a conducting screw 50 completes a conducting path between parts 47, 49 and thereby interconnects the socket 18 and the lead 33. In the embodiment of Fig. 6, the insertion of a jack plug having an insulated tip 64 breaks a conducting path between lead 33 and socket 18 and connects the socket 18 to a lead carried by the plug. Such an arrangement may be used for test purposes. Several such edge connectors may be arranged side by side to form a composite connector for a plurality of circuit boards (Figs. 1 to 3 and 5, not shown). In addition each edge connector may have a series of subsidiary contacts (26, Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) for wires connecting contacts on the same, or adjacent boards by means of soldering, clipping or crimping. Channels (56, Fig. 5, not shown) may be formed between adjacent edge connectors for receiving the external leads 33.
