Abstract
1280794 Two-part couplings AMP Inc 18 Jan 1971 [9 Feb 1970] 2329/71 Heading H2E [Also in Division H1] High frequency transmission lines are connected by means of a two-part connector, each connector part comprising a signal contact surrounded by grounding contacts, the number and spacing of the grounding contacts being such that when the signal and grounding contacts of the two connector parts are respectively interengaged the impedances of the transmission lines are matched. As shown, Fig. 1, signal lines 22 on one face of a printed circuit board are soldered to contact pins 24 in an insulating housing 12, while contact pins 16, disposed around pins 24, are connected to a ground plane 20 on the other face of the board. Similarly, socket contacts 34 in an insulating housing 14 are connected to signal lines 32 on a second board 28, and are surrounded by further socket contacts 26 connected to a ground plane 30 on board 28. Additional boards may be stacked beneath, and connected to the socket contacts of, housing 14. Fig. 3 (not shown) depicts a multipin plug connected to a coaxial cable, a central pin of the plug being connected to the centre cable conductor, and a plurality of pins which surround the central pin being connected to the outer cable screen.
