Abstract

1328944 Suction cleaner nozzles ELECTROLUX Ltd 21 Feb 1972 [26 Feb 1971] 7903/72 Heading A4F Brushes 20 are movable relative to a suction cleaner nozzle 15, being attached by bridges 21 to a flexible diaphragm 22. Cups 26, which act on the diaphragm 22, are spring biased by springs 27 so that the brushes 20 are normally extended as shown. Suction conduit 13 is in communication with chamber 24 via a funnel 29, holes 30, 31 and slit 32. When operating on a hard surface, air is preferentially directed between, i.e. parallel to, the brushes 20 into the funnel 29 so as to increase the pressure within the chamber 24 and maintain the brushes 20 in the position shown. On a soft surface, however, the gaps between the brushes 20 are closed by the soft surface stopping air being preferentially directed to the funnel 29 thereby allowing a negative pressure to exist in the chamber 24 which overcomes the spring biasing so as to retract the brushes 20.
