Abstract

1381237 Signal device for clogged vacuum cleaner ELECTROLUX Ltd 31 Jan 1973 [11 Feb 1972] 4772/73 Heading BIT A vacuum cleaner having a dust bag (or collector) has a signal device comprising a piston, which moves, during cleaning, in response to the pressure difference between the upstream and downstream sides of the bag to a position which indicates the extent of the filling of the bag and is retained in that position when cleaning is stopped. As shown piston 18 which is open to downstream pressure through 39 and the upstream pressure through 41 is drawn to the left against the action of spring 24 and retained in position by spring 31, and is released only when end cover 10 is removed to replace the filter bag. When end cover 10 is withdrawn from casing 11 of the cleaner, arm 34 is pivoted at journal 35 under action of spring 38 allowing spring 31 to release the piston which returns to its initial position. The piston may be coloured in zones and may be observed through window 29. The signal device may be protected from dust by auxiliary filter 45 and clean air bleed hole 48.
