Abstract

1,080,504. Clogging indicator for vacuum cleaner filter bag. ELECTROLUX Ltd. July 6, 1965 [July 17, 1964], No. 28560/65. Heading BIT. In a vacuum cleaner in which a diaphragm 22 is exposed on one side 24 to the pressure upstream of a paper filter bag 14a and on the other side 23 to a spring 37 and the pressure on the downstream side of the supporting bag 14, the diaphragm is normally held against a seat 36 which is adjustable so as to vary the pressure difference at which the diaphragm separates from the seat 36 thereby actuating a clogging alarm. Seat 36 is formed at the end of a channel 32 opening to the atmosphere and containing a metal reed 34, and when diaphragm 22 is displaced rightwards air is drawn through channels 32, 33 to the upstream, inside region of bag 14a whereby reed 34 gives an accoustic signal. Valve body 29, comprising channel 32 and seat 36, is threadedly adjustable in end cover 12 of the cleaner, displacing the diaphragm and compressing spring 37. The initial compression of spring 37 is adjustable by screw 38 which carries a further screw 39, and, if body 29 is sufficiently advanced, the diaphragm is clamped between screw 39 and seat 36 and the alarm is thereby inactivated. The diaphragm could move an external coloured indicator or open a switch to stop the motor.
