Abstract

1355871 Regulating fluid-pressure WESTFALIA SEPARATOR A G 19 April 1971 [21 March 1970] 24275/71 Heading G3H A valve-like flow controller which is suitable for use in dairy separators and which acts to maintain a constant pressure, comprises a fixed open-ended cylinder 3 having a plurality of ports 2 in its lateral wall, and a cylindrical sleeve 4 which slides over the cylinder to so vary the degree of opening of the ports 2. The sleeve is formed integrally with, but is spaced from a body 5 which in turn is secured to a compound structure 6 upon which a spring 7 acts. In use, with no flow through the controller the spring 7 so positions the sleeve 4 that the latter practically closes ports 2. Upon a flow being initiated through the controller inlet 13, the degree of opening of the ports 2 is determined by the fluidpressure force which acts within the space 10 on the body 5 and which is opposed by the force of spring 7. The spring tension is adjustable. Should the controller attain a fully open position an alarm signal is triggered by the engagement of structure 6 with an electrical contact 21. In a modification, Fig. 2, (not shown) the spring is replaced by a closed volume of compressed air.
