929,085. Visual indicating devices. COOPER'S MECHANICAL JOINTS Ltd., and S. P. WITCHELL. March 1, 1961 [March 18, 1960; June 16, 1960], Nos. 9738/60 and 21249/60. Class 118. [Also in Group XXVIII] A filter clogging indicating device set in the wall 1, Fig. 1, of the filtered air chamber 56, Fig. 4 (not shown) of an I.C. engine air intake filter comprises a transparent casing 4, 5 open at opposite ends 15, 8 to atmosphere and to the variable suction pressure within chamber 56 and within which is mounted a bell-shaped member 13 movable to a position relative to a fixed index member 12 according to the intensity of said suction pressure which is resisted by a coil spring 21, and the bell 13 has means e.g. a spring clip 22 which at a predetermined displacement of the bell holds it against the action of the spring even after the filter has been rendered inoperable. The bell is guided within the lower portion 4 of the casing by a felt seal 19 and the index member 12 comprises a red coloured thimble packed with filter wadding 17. In a modification the bell 44, Fig. 3, is guided by engagement of a rubber tube 39 over the end of a tubular portion 48 of the bell, and the latter is held in its extreme lower position by a keeper 49 secured to a tapered portion 45b and attracted by a magnet 50.
