Abstract

1,190,219. Suction cleaners. ELECTROLUX Ltd. 17 Nov., 1967 [28 Nov., 1966; 12 Oct., 1967], No. 52355/67. Heading A4F. Brushes 21 at the sides of an elongated suction opening 12 in a suction cleaner nozzle 10 are secured to diaphragms 16 beneath spaces 14 communicating with the suction conduit 13 via openings 15, so that when the nozzle 10 is applied to a soft surface, such as that of a carpet, the said surface substantially closes the suction opening 12 so that the suction in the conduit 13 and the spaces 14 is sufficient to raise the brushes 21 from said surface. When, however, the nozzle 10 is applied to a hard surface, supports such as wheels 26 hold the nozzle opening away from that surface so that the suction in the conduit 13 and the spaces 14 is insufficient to raise the brushes 21, which are held against the hard surface by springs 18. Alternatively the suction opening 12 may be circular and surrounded by a single angular brush. In a further embodiment the suction conduit 13 is provided with an opening, or a conduit communicating therewith, provided with a shutter device for varying the suction within the conduit 13.
