Abstract

1328589 Boots &c NOUVELLE SOC BRUEY SA 20 Dec 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 59031/ 71 Heading A3B A sports shoe spike of the type which is screwed into an insert 9 provided on the shoe sole consists of an externally threaded cylindrical support member 1 and a needle spike 2 secured in an axial bore in the support member 1, the support member being provided with means for engaging a tool for screwing the member 1 into the threaded insert 9. The tool engaging means are formed in a flange 1a and may be in the form of flats, hexagonal faces, or holes in a washer fixed to the member 1. The member 1 is formed of easily worked material such as steel, zinc alloy, brass, aluminium or a synthetic plastics material and the spike 2 is formed of a strong materdal such as high resistance steel, titanium or aluminium alloy. The spike 2 may be fixed in a blind bore 3 in the member 1 (Fig. 1) by an interference fit, welding, adhesive, threading or by casting the support I about the spike 2. Alternatively the spike 2 may be formed with a flange 13 (Fig. 4) which is held between the member 1 and the bottom face 15 'of a bore in the insert 9. The spike 2 may be straight or curved as shown in Fig. 4.
