Abstract
1327362 Tensioning yarn in flyer twisting machines A W VIBBER 2 April 1971 8538/71 Heading D1D Two strands are plied together by rotating one strand a in a loop about a source of supply of the other strand b and pulling the plied strands c away from the plying point p by a force which is varied in response to variations in tension of the strands a and b, such that an increase in the tension in the separate strands increases the force of pulling the plied strands. The plying point is free for deflection during operation due to variations in the tension of strand a as it approaches strand b. As shown, strand a is forwarded at a constant speed by rolls 18 from a package into a rotating loop 10. The loop is guided by flyer 47 and driven flyer 29 to the plying point p. Strand b is forwarded at the same constant speed from package 23 within the loop. Variations in tension of the strands a and b result in varying deflections of the plying point and variations in the tension in the plied strands c. These variations in tension in the plied strands c cause the position and the degree of slipping of the strands c on tapered haul pulleys 54 to vary. Thereby the strands c are drawn off at a slower or faster speed so as to keep the lengths of the strands a and b in the plied strand c equal.
