Abstract

1,014,023. Stranding machines. STROLBERGER MASCHINEN-UND APPARATEBAU G.m.b.H. June 21,1962, No. 24016/62. Heading D1T. A stranding machine of the kind having a floating carrier 5 in a rotor 4 acting a flyer arm for twisting the strands together before they are fed to a take-up reel 12 by a draw-off drum 8, both mounted on the floating carrier 5, is characterized in that the draw-off drum 8 is driven via a variable gear 7 adjustable from outside the rotor 4 to change the lay length while the machine is operating, said gear being linked to the rotor 4 by a reversing gear 6 which, together with the variable gear 7, is mounted on the carrier 5 within the rotor 4. The reversing gear 6, driven by a belt 2 from a a motor 1, enables the draw-off drum 8 to be rotated always in the same direction while allowing the direction of rotation of the rotor 4 to be reversed to change the hand of the lay. The variable gear 7 is driven by the reversing gear 6. The takeup reel 12 is driven from the draw-off drum 8 via a slipping clutch. The variable gear 7 is preferably steplessly variable and may be driven by an auxiliary motor to enable it to be adjusted from control means external to the rotor 4. There may be means for imparting a predetermined repeating cycle of adjustment to the speed of the auxiliary motor or there may be means between said auxiliary motor and the variable gear 7 by means of which continuous operation of the motor imparts a repeating cycle of adjustment to the variable gear 7. The motor 1 may be used on a breaking device as well as a driving means.
