Abstract

1, 038, 352. Pretwisting yarns. SOC. CHIMIOTEX. March 6, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 9678/64. Heading D1D. Apparatus for imparting a pretwist, e. g. 50 to 200 turns per metre, to yarns made up of continuous filaments comprises a two for one delivery spindle 10 on which a supply package is mounted, a forwarding device (e.g. inclined rolls 13, 14) drawing off the yarn at a predetermined speed and a wind-up head 15 whose speed is modulated in accordance with the yarn tension so that a substantially constant winding tension is maintained. As shown, the yarn passes from the rolls 13, 14 about a roller 16 mounted on a lever 17 pivoted at 18b; variations in yarn tension thus vary the position of the lever 17 which is arranged to adjust the speed of the wind-up head 15 in a tension regulating manner, e.g. by varying the voltage applied to a driving motor. The forwarding device 13, 14 is driven from a whorl 12 which is engaged by a belt driven from a pulley 9 on a motor 8 and also driving the whorl on spindle 10. To alter the twist imparted to the yarn the pulley 12 may be exchanged for one of different diameter.
