1326131 Capping bottles COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 21 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 10440/71 Heading B8T A machine for applying leak-tight stoppers of the reversible skirt type to flasks comprises a receptacle (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), for receiving the flask, and a hollow casing above the flask incorporating nested pistons powered pneumatically. At the start of the operation cycle all the pistons are in their uppermost position. Compressed air is introduced through pipe10 into the chamber 14, depressing the outer piston 12, to which is fixed the rod 15 having fixed extension 16. The latter presses the stopper, hitherto loosely placed on the flask top, into the neck of the flask. This downward motion-is stopped by the abutment of the nut 30 with the end 31 of the hollow casing. The duct 20 now allows passage of compressed air into the chamber 19. depressing the piston 17, to the end of which are attached flexible strips 21 which partially invert the skirt 6 of the stopper. This downward motion is stopped by the washer 33, and compressed air is now able to enter the chamber 24 through the passage 25, depressing the piston 22, to the end of which are attached flexible strips 26 which turn down the outer edge of the skirt 6. The pistons resume their initial position by the passage of compressed air through the pipe 11. The receptacle (1) is able to rotate about a pin (3).
